Griffin iTrip Clip: The Most Useful iPhone 7 Accessory You Can Buy
Why you should buy the Griffin iTrip Clip.
There are a lot of terrific accessories for the iPhone 7/iPhone 7 Plus. Few, however, are as practical and beneficial as this $20 device from Griffin.
- Converts any earbuds or headphones to wireless Bluetooth Headphones
- Play, volume, and track controls work with all music, video, and streaming apps
- Built-in hands-free mic for phone and video calls
- Compatible with Siri, Google Now, and other voice recognition apps
Introduced last summer, the iTrip Clip turns any wired pair of headphones into a wireless set. In doing so, it breathes new life into headphones that require a 3.5mm headphone jack, which, of course, the iPhone 7 doesn’t have.
Back in September, Griffin sent me an iTrip Clip for a possible review. Admittingly, for nearly six months, the accessory sat in its box unused. Then something interesting happened.
Each iPhone 7 ships with a Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. I had been buying extra adapters for various purposes for months. For example, I have one in the car and other ones in my living room, basement, and bedroom.
About a month ago, as I was prepping for a walk, I realized that my pair of wireless MW50s were out of juice. I decided to use a pair of wired headphones instead, but I didn’t want to attach them to my iPhone 7 Plus. I then remembered the iTrip Clip that was collecting dust on my desk.
About the size of an older-generation iPod nano, the iTrip Clip connects to your iPhone wirelessly like other Bluetooth-enabled accessories. To use with your wired headphones, just plug them into the device’s 3.5mm jack. It features a play, volume, and track control buttons. An integrated microphone allows you to receive hands-free calls and access Siri.

Better still: the built-in battery can provide up to six hours of use and 180 hours of standby time. You can also employee it in a car with an AUX in port but without Bluetooth capability.
I love my iTrip Clip and continue to kick myself for not using it sooner. Yes, it’s that good.
Rather than spend $9 for extra Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapters, a better choice is to buy one iTrip Clip for around $20. Not only does it allow you to use non-Lightning headphones with your iPhone 7, but you can do so wirelessly.
You can purchase the Griffin iTrip Clip via Amazon and through the company’s official website.
