IKEA Trådfri Smart Lighting Products Now Support Apple HomeKit

It’s official. IKEA Trådfri smart lighting products now support Apple HomeKit. The news comes four months after the popular Swedish furniture company said its product line would support the framework sometime this year.

As MacRumors was the first to note, support was confirmed in IKEA’s response to a question posted on a Facebook page after a customer noticed a change in the technical specifications on the company’s Trådfri product page.

The affordable range of lighting products from IKEA was originally announced in March and includes a variety of items including LED bulbs, a motion sensor kit, dimming lights and illuminated panels. At the time, IKEA made no mention of HomeKit support.

However, as Abdel Ibrahim noted in May, IKEA made it clear HomeKit compatibility would be forthcoming:

In the summer and autumn, IKEA takes the next step towards the smart home. With increased functionality, IKEA’s smart lighting range can be used with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant, which means that you can voice-control your lighting.

We believe that smart home technology should be accessible to everyone. For this reason, we will continue to work with our products to be compatible with other products available on the market.

Trådfri products range in price from $11.99 for an E26 LED light bulb to $79.99 for a gateway kit. According to MacRumors, Trådfri also works now with the Philips Hue lighting system, although that isn’t yet mentioned on the IKEA website.
