The NBA App for Apple TV Finally Gets an Update
The NBA has finally updated it’s Apple TV app with a much more modern look that also includes a variety of new features.
If you love basketball, then one of the things you may have been frustrated with is the NBA League Pass app on Apple TV.
When the fourth-generation Apple TV launched last fall, Apple pushed the idea that the future of television was apps. To get this point across, it demoed the MLB app, which allows you to watch and see the scores of other games and also give you push notifications for close games.
Super cool, no?
Then the 2015-2016 NBA season started and nothing changed on the NBA app. It was literally the same app from the Apple TV 3 and earlier, just ported to the new model.
I waited for a change and even emailed and messaged the NBA recently on Twitter asking when they would update the app. Unfortunately, I never got a response.
@NBA are you going to update your Apple TV app before the season starts? Please don’t tell me it’s going untouched.

Today, however, this has all changed with the new NBA League Pass app for Apple TV. The league has updated the app with an entirely new user interface as well as new capabilities and features.
Watch a game while checking out scores
One of the most notable features is the ability to watch a game while also checking out other scores, something that I’ve wanted since day one of having the new Apple TV.
The league has also improved app navigation, making it easier for you to check out things such as standings, top 10 plays, and the best highlights.
Quickly check scores, top 10 plays, and highlights.
If you have an Apple TV, the app should update automatically. My biggest hope is that the NBA includes Live Tune-In so that you can say something like “Watch the Cleveland Cavaliers” and it automatically brings you to the game. We’ll see.
