Explore and expand your knowledge with Wikipedia for iOS
Who doesn’t know Wikipedia? Well, if you know people who don’t, there’s no better way to let them know what Wikipedia is than showing them the “Wikipedia” article on Wikipedia for iOS, the popular free Internet encyclopedia, which is also easily accessible through its newly updated app.
Wikipedia Mobile, the official iOS app of the eponymous free online encyclopedia, has just been updated to version 5.0 with a number of new and noteworthy features and enhancements. Along with a revamped interface, the new version of the app boasts a new Explore feed, improvements to search and saved articles, support for 3D Touch, and more.
Explore
Wikipedia Mobile features an Explore feed that enables you to discover interesting articles every day by suggesting articles based on your interests and surroundings. These include the featured article of the day, the top read articles, the picture of the day, random articles, nearby articles, and recommended articles based on what you’ve read. Worried about your privacy? Don’t be, since no reading list or user profile is stored on Wikipedia’s servers even as you continue to Explore.
Search
Quickly search for a specific subject or article on Wikipedia. Navigate within articles with ease, using smooth scrolling or direct jumping to sections from the swipeable table of contents. And while you’re at it, you can enjoy high-resolution image galleries and article photos. You can also read articles in multiple languages by setting up your preferred browsing languages, and easily share articles, images, and facts via email or social media.
Save
Want to save articles for reading later? You can do that in Wikipedia Mobile. What’s more, your saved articles are available even when you don’t have an Internet connection. Also, your saved articles are quickly searchable directly from Spotlight.
3D Touch
Have an iPhone 6s or an iPhone 6s Plus? You can use 3D Touch on the Wikipedia Mobile app icon on the home screen to access quick shortcuts to search Wikipedia, continue reading the last article you visited, view nearby articles, and check out a random article. You can also use 3D Touch to Peek and Pop links right within the app.
Wikipedia, of course, is accessible through any Web browser. But if you want ease of use and additional features, the service’s official iOS app is the way to go, what with its Explore feed, support for saved articles, 3D Touch integration, and more.
Satisfy your curiosity now by downloading Wikipedia Mobile 5.0 for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad — free from the App Store.
