Apple Loses Patent Case In Japan Against Samsung

August 31, 2012
You can’t win them all, I suppose. While Apple was victorious in its recent patent infringement suit in the United States against Samsung, the company didn’t end up as lucky in Japan. According to Bloomberg, a Japanese court recently ruled that Samsung didn’t infringe on an Apple patent for synchronizing music and video data with servers. The same court also denied an injunction by Apple to bar the sale of eight Samsung products in the country. Tokyo District Judge Tamotsu Shoji also ordered Apple to pay the costs of the lawsuit:
“It’s hard to believe the products belong to the range of technologies of the claimant,” Shoji said in dismissing Apple’s case.
And one cheerleader (uh, I mean analyst) thinks the ruling will help Samsung:
"This will likely turn the tide in favor of Samsung," said Kim Hyung Sik, Seoul-based analyst at Taurus Investment Securities Co. "Samsung had this win in a country that's strong at intellectual property. The mood is turning positive for Samsung."
While Samsung and Apple seem to have no problems battling each other all over the world, Google is apparently having second thoughts. We reported yesterday that Google’s Larry Page and Apple’s Tim Cook have been discussing patent issues in a sign of a possible settlement between the two companies.
