Apple famously started handing out free iPhone cases and bumpers as a means of responding to "antennagate," with iPhone 4 owners having the option of selecting a free smartphone case for their antenna issue-afflicted handset. Though a variety of bumper colors are already available, a recent report from 9to5Mac claims that the Cupertino, Calif. company is planning on launching an all-new red bumper for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S handsets.
The website notes that:
According to very reliable sources, Apple is about to release a red colored iPhone Bumper case. Apple’s inventory system just calls it “Red,” so we’re not sure if it’s PRODUCT(RED) certified. But with Apple’s ties to the organization, we’d assume it is.Preorders for the sixth-generation iPhone handset are expected to begin as early as Sept. 12, which is the same day the company's keynote presentation should take place. It might seem odd that Apple is launching a new case for its fourth- and fifth-generation iPhone handsets, but do remember that a lot of folks will continue to use (and purchase) the company's older smartphones following the launch of the sixth-gen handset. UPDATE: The new (PRODUCT) RED bumpers are now available in Apple's online store for $29. The free iPhone bumper I got for my iPhone 4 scratched up the metallic antenna. How much success have you had with the iPhone bumpers, or did you opt for a different case with Apple's free program? Source: 9to5Mac
