The Moleskine App Is Dead! Long Live The Moleskine App!
August 25, 2012
Coinciding with the announcement of its partnership with Evernote for the creation of the Evernote Smart Notebook, Moleskine has launched a new iOS app called Moleskine Journal.
Moleskine Journal is a huge improvement on the original Moleskine iOS app, which was released in April last year. But unlike the older app, which is universal, Moleskine Journal is compatible with iPad only. And it’s really not difficult to see why.
Moleskine Journal offers far more than basic note-taking and sketching capabilities. It comes with an artist toolset as well as a handy text tool.
Moleskine pencil, Moleskine pen, paintbrush, highlighter, and color picker tools are available in Moleskine Journal. So are a variety of font type, size color, and opacity settings.
What’s more, syncing via (what else?) Evernote and backup with Dropbox are supported. Project sharing through email, Facebook, and Twitter is also included in the app.
But what really makes Moleskine Journal a Moleskine product, albeit a digital one, is its use of the popular notebook manufacturer’s classic design.
Moleskine Journal lets you create and manage digital notebooks sporting Moleskine’s classic paper style, including plain, ruled, and squared. In addition, the app also offers templates patterned after Moleskine’s popular Weekly Planner, Passion Recipe Journal, and Storyboard Notebook.
Every digital notebook even has Moleskine’s signature inner pocket, which you can use to store your favorite text and images.
Moleskine Journal is available now in the App Store for free.
The old Moleskine app can remain on your devices even after you’ve downloaded Moleskine Journal. But please bear in mind that it will be removed from the App Store on Sept. 1.
Frankly, it’s just as well that the old Moleskine app, which has left much to be desired, gets pulled out. Even as it’s not yet universal, Moleskine Journal is a more than worthy replacement.
