Thirst For Twitter Gets Filled Up With Universal Support, iCloud Sync And More
August 1, 2012
Thirst, the magazine-like Twitter client that trickled into the App Store in mid-May, has received another update today.
While the last couple of updates for the app brought nothing more than performance enhancements and bug fixes, this latest one is a doozy.
First off, the update delivers universal support to Thirst.
Since its launch, Thirst has been an app that's designed for iPad only. Now, Thirst has been turned into a universal app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.
Of course, the version of the app designed for the smaller iOS devices is not a mere scaling down of the original iPad version. That would be impractical, not to mention ridiculous.
Thirst for iPad sports an overlapping panel navigation similar to that of the official Twitter app for iPad. Thirst for iPhone, on the other hand, uses a sidebar-assisted navigation in the style of such iPhone apps as Facebook, Path, and Sparrow.
Applicable to both iPhone and iPad versions of the app, a new "Featured" section and read state syncing have also been added by the update.
The former lets you "discover what is going on right now in different events and categories," while the latter lets you sync read states across your devices using iCloud or Thirst's own servers.
Thirst for Twitter is available in the App Store for free.
In my post about Thirst published on the day of its launch, I mentioned three notable omissions in its initial release: basic favoriting, native iOS Twitter authorization, and read-later app integration.
I'm delighted to see that the first two have been added to Thirst. Now, if only Thirst would do something about having Instapaper, Pocket, and Readability support in the next update …
