The 'Father Of The iPod' Says That Scott Forstall's Firing Was 'Deserved And Justified'

Tony Fadell, considered “the father of the iPod,” isn’t shedding a tear for Scott Forstall, Apple’s former iOS chief. Fadell says that Forstall “got what he deserved” when Apple CEO Tim Cook fired him last month. In a BBC interview that touched on many topics, the Nest smart thermostat creator is highly critical of Forstall, and calls his demise “deserved and justified.” Fadell’s comments don’t come as much of a surprise. In 2011, Businessweek magazine stated that the two executives clashed often in an “explosive” climate. So much so that this was one of the reasons Fadell left the company. Looking ahead, Fadell believes Apple is in good hands, especially now with Jony Ive taking a more active role in software development at the company. Ive, the company’s famous senior vice president of industrial design, is also said to have clashed often with Forstall. He will now work with Craig Federighi to design future versions of iOS and OS X. Says Fadell:

So, I think Apple is in a great space, it has great products and there are amazing people at the company, and those people actually have a chance to have a firm footing now and continue the legacy Steve [Jobs] left.

This report continues a month-long narrative that suggests Forstall won't be missed despite his many contributions at Apple, which included developing iOS.
