Pure Wordament: Microsoft Launches First iOS Game With Xbox Achievements
December 22, 2012
Microsoft has just released a new game in the App Store. It's called Wordament and, as its name suggests, it's yet another word game.
But while there's definitely no shortage of word games in the App Store, with Letterpress and SpellTower being just two of our favorites, there is something unique about Wordament.
Wordament, which has been available on Windows Phone and Windows 8, is the first game to come to iOS with Xbox Achievements. Microsoft notes the following on the official Wordament blog:
When you sign in with your free Microsoft account, you can earn up to 50 Gamerscore from our 10 achievements and you’ll have access to all of your Xbox Friends and Wordament Frenemies. If you’ve played on Windows Phone or Window 8 and jump to the iOS version, all of your player stats and friends will follow your account automatically. You can sign in to the game using your existing Xbox account or any Microsoft account, e.g. Hotmail, SkyDrive, or Windows 8. But you can also play as a guest if you don't mind not being ranked in the leaderboards. In Wordament, you have to form as many words as you can in two minutes in the unique 4 x 4 letter grid provided for every game. To form words, all you have to do is swipe adjacent letters in any direction. Horizontally, vertically, diagonally, there and back again — any direction works. After every game, you are presented with real-time results, including words you found and missed, words found per second, average word score, and average word length. Designed for iPhone and iPod touch, but not yet optimized for iPhone 5 and the fifth-generation iPod touch, Wordament is available now in the App Store for free. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
