Evernote For iOS Updated With Snippets, Trunk, Improved PDF Viewer And More Features
March 1, 2013
Evernote has just issued an excellent update to its namesake productivity app for iOS.
The update brings Snippets for iPad, an improved PDF viewer, new formatting options, new features for Evernote Business, a new Trunk section, and more.
Snippets for iPad offers a quick way of looking at your notes. To use this new feature, just pull down from the top of Evernote's Notes view on your iPad and tap the list icon. You can then easily scan your notes and jump to any month using the date scrubber at the right edge of the screen.
The new version of Evernote for iOS also offers a better PDF viewing experience with the addition of the following enhancements:
If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. As for the new formatting options, there are two. One, the new Simplify Formatting option gets rid of any formatting issues in a note, lending itself well for cleaning up Web clips. And two, the new Plain Text option removes all rich text, formatting, and images in a note until the note is left in all its glorious, er, plainness. As well, there are two new features for Evernote Business: the ability to set Business Notebooks as Offline Notebooks and the ability to view your company's Business Library from your iPad. And then there's the Trunk. On the Evernote app's iPad edition, the Trunk lets you discover and install a wide array of apps powered by Evernote. Of course, these include Penultimate, which Evernote acquired last year and significantly updated last month. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, the newly updated Evernote is available now in the App Store for free. The update also includes the following improvements:
- Multi-page: Jump to any page in your PDF by tapping on the page images along the bottom of the PDF or the grid icon in the top left corner.
- Search: Tap the magnifying glass to search within the PDF. Premium subscribers will also be able to search inside scanned PDFs.
- Landscape view: Turn your iPhone or iPad on its side to get a two-page view.
- Rotation lock: Tap the rotate icon in the top right corner to lock the PDF in place so it doesn’t move when you turn your device.
Note, though, that the update has been found to cause frequent crashes to some users. Evernote says that it's already working on a fix and suggests uninstalling and reinstalling the app for the time being. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
