This Week In Accessories: Build Your Own OtterBox Defender And More

February 15, 2013
Welcome back to This Week in Accessories. Here are some of the latest iOS device companions hitting the market this week. OtterBox Defender Build Your Own Case

The iconic OtterBox Defender case for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S has just gotten a lot more colorful. OtterBox has recently rolled out its Build Your Own Case option for the rugged cases series. Buyers can choose from 72 differenct color combinations for the iPhone 5 and 35 color choices for the iPhone 4/4S. The Defender protects a handset with a multi-layered construction and built-in screen protector. A belt holster is also included. But you will have to pay a premium for choosing your colors. While the normal Defender cases cost $49.95, the build your own case version is available for $59.90. For more information about the case and to place an order, you can visit OtterBox’s site. While the option to pick your own color is nice, I’m still waiting for the company’s Armor Series Case for the iPhone 5. The case, which was shown off at CES 2013, takes rugged protection to a new level by being waterproof and dustproof. The Armor Series will be available for both the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5 and retail for $99.95 when it is released a little later this month. Outlet Speaker from bēm wireless

While the market has been flooded with Bluetooth speakers, bēm wireless has a unique option with its outlet speaker. About the size of a juice box, the speaker plugs in directly to a power outlet, and has a range of around 25 feet. With a built-in power adapter, the speaker never needs to be recharged. A USB port allows users to charge their mobile devices as well. For even more flexibility, the speaker also has an aux in and aux out connection. The speaker retails for $99.99 and can be purchased now through the company’s site. It will be available at Target and Amazon.com next month. RFKLT Bike Computer from Wahoo Fitness

Using Bluetooth 4.0 technology, the RFKLT Bike Computer from Wahoo Fitness wirelessly displays heart rate information, cycling app data, speed, cadence, and music while your handset stays tucked away. Weighing in at just 2 ounces, the device attaches directly to a bike’s handlebars. The RFLKT is powered by a coin-cell battery that has more than a year of battery life and doesn’t need to be recharged. By using the low-energy Bluetooth standard, it is only compatible with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. The RFLKT is available for $129.99 directly through Wahoo Fitness’ site.
