This Week In Accessories: Three Great Cases For The iPhone 5

March 15, 2013
Even though the iPhone 5 has been on the market for almost six months, accessory manufacturers are still releasing new and interesting protection options. Here’s a look at three great new cases that have hit the market.

Gasket V8 from id America

The Gasket V8 from id America is easily one of best-looking cases I’ve seen for the iPhone 5. Taking inspiration from the head gasket of a powerful V8 engine, the case is made from aircraft-grade aluminum and easily wraps around the handset. A suede interior provides shock absorption and provides protection from bumps and scratches. Along with the case, id America also provides a front screen protector,  installation squeegee, and microfiber cloth. Available in six colors – gray, gold, silver, blue, red, and green – the case will be available for $29.95 on id America’s website starting Thursday, March 20.

Radius from mod-3

Bite My Apple, which specializes in selling Apple products that were successfully funded on Kickstarter, is now offering the Radius for the iPhone 5. While the option from mod-3 does protect your iPhone 5, it’s definitely hard to describe it as a case. The Radius is composed of a four corner modules and an X frame that holds them together. Weighing only 4.4 grams, the inside of the corners are composed of non-slip lining material to provide extra grip and vibration absorption. The slightly raised profile of the corners also allows a user to place their iPhone 5 face down without having to worry about screen scratches. There are four different color versions of the Radius. It can be ordered on bitemyapple.co for $69.99. Orders are expected to begin shipping next week.

Saturn from Spigen SGP

While Spigen SGP is well-known for its high-quality screen protectors like the GLAS.t, the company also does a nice job with its diverse line of inexpensive iPhone 5 cases. The new Saturn combines lightweight polycarbonate and anodized aluminum parts to mimic the look of the handset’s iconic back. The bottom of the case is completely open for easy access to both the Lightning connector and headphone jack. Available in slate, red, and silver the case retails for $26.99 on Spigen SGP’s site.
