As Its New Update Suggests, Waze Likes Facebook More Than Ever

May 30, 2013
Facebook may not have been successful in acquiring Waze, but its presence in the popular social navigation app has just become more pronounced than ever. Waze has long been enabling you to connect to Facebook to see who among your friends are also headed to your destination. In fact, the app has just been updated with a friends bar on the map that lets you see friends headed to the same place as you are and the order they're set to arrive. Now, though, the app has also been updated to enable you to see Facebook events as well. Your Facebook events now appear on the navigation list, allowing you to navigate to any event's venue with just one tap. The newly updated app also includes Foursquare check-in from the report menu and real-time and offline beeping at friends. Furthermore, Waze has been updated with support for JVC AppLink Mode for compatible in-dash car audio receivers, plus the following enhancements:
  • Exclusive moods for map editors only - 8 bit, robot and T-Rex
  • Redesigned pop up alerts
  • Inbox in main menu
  • 3 state mute button in main menu
  • Lock up north added to settings
  • Multiple fixes, optimization and more!
The latest version of Waze is available now to download in the App Store for free. The universal app is compatible with iDevices running iOS 4.3 or later. Earlier this month, it was reported that Facebook had been in "advanced talks" to acquire Waze. Google was also rumored to be eyeing Waze. But it's unclear whether this was a major factor in the social networking giant's failed attempt to buy the service. Back in January, Apple was also rumored to have included Waze in its shopping list. But Apple CEO Tim Cook himself made a comment to the contrary during his interview at the D11 conference. Apple did not make a bid for Waze, he said. The app's previous update, which arrived late last February, featured real-time road closure reporting, along with other improvements.
