In iOS 7, You Can Teach Siri To Pronounce Names Correctly

June 24, 2013
Another improvement made to Siri in iOS 7 concerns name pronunciation. Namely, in iOS 7 beta 1, developers have noted that it's possible to teach the personal assistant how to correctly pronounce unfamiliar names. It's an impressive feature, and one first spotted by a 9to5Mac reader. As the website explains:
Siri will ask for help pronouncing a name if it has trouble understanding you the first time you pronounce a name. In addition, we have found that you can simply say, “That’s not how you pronounce [any name]” and Siri will go through the learning process. In that phase, it will ask you to say the name then present a few options of how it thinks you said it. Once you choose an option, it will save and always (try to) correctly pronounce the name.
Apple didn't announce this new feature during its WWDC 2013 keynote, though the Cupertino, Calif. company did explain that it has given Siri a new voice in iOS 7. In our hands-on video, we also took a closer look at Siri's all-new design, and at the Twitter, Bing, and Wikipedia integration added in the forthcoming mobile operating system. Though some have suggested that the personal assistant is no match for Google Voice Search, it would appear that Apple is making every effort to improve Siri in iOS 7.
