HopStop Transit App Receives First Update Following Its Acquisition By Apple
July 28, 2013
HopStop Transit Directions for iPhone has stopped at another major update. Notably, this is the first update to arrive for the app since the company behind it, HopStop.com, Inc., was acquired by Apple earlier this month, along with Locationary.
The latest update to the app, which offers transit directions by subway, bus, train, taxi, foot, or bike, brings support for additional cities in Germany, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the U.K.
The update also adds a couple of options in the app's settings section that enable you to save your home and work addresses for quick access. Also aimed at quick access is the added availability of your saved "My Trips" directly from the search screen.
Furthermore, the new update improves the look and feel of the app with a new font and refined user interface.
But perhaps the most noteworthy improvement brought about by the latest update to HopStop Transit Directions for iPhone lies in the app's enhanced HopStop Live feature.
Introduced through the app's update last April, HopStop Live lets you view real-time feeds of what people are saying about any bus, subway, regional rail, station, or agency covered by HopStop.
The app's previous update, which arrived last May, added the ability to contribute general comments and tips via HopStop Live.
Now, the app's new update takes HopStop Live further with the ability to report the following real-time information in addition to general comments: delays, crowds, incidents, service changes, suggestions, complaints, station closures, and broken elevators. This enhancement is akin to one of the key features of Waze, which, incidentally, was once rumored to be acquired by Apple.
The new version of HopStop Transit Directions for iPhone is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later.
HopStop Transit Directions for iPad is also available in the App Store for free. Note, though, that it's yet to gain support for HopStop Live. It was updated a couple of months ago with a service expansion covering new markets.
