BIT.TRIP Runner2 To Make The Leap To iOS This Winter

September 3, 2013
BIT.TRIP Presents Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is set to dash into Apple's App Store this winter, according to developer Gaijin Games. The news comes from Cult of Mac, who was able to speak with Gaijin Games at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) this past weekend in Seattle, Wash., and notes that the developer is planning on publishing the game itself:
The team wanted to publish Runner2 on iOS on its own, in contrast to the console versions, which were published by Aksys Games. The Bit.Trip series has been a critical and consumer success, selling well on a variety of platforms since it began with Bit.Trip Beat in 2009.
Gaijin Games explains that Runner2 is being optimized for touch, and that the finished product will be a universal app optimized for Apple's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Runner2 will feature the same five worlds as its console counterpart, and will have "all the familiar characters that you can unlock or purchase to play through the levels with. You’ll also have the same chance to unlock challenge and retro levels in the iOS Runner2 game, using gold collected throughout each level, including levels that use the same tile-set as the first BIT.TRIP Runner, which originally released in 2010," Cult of Mac adds. The iOS app will also constitute the first time Gaijin Games has used high definition graphics for a BIT.TRIP game. As mentioned, Runner2 should launch for iOS this winter, and we'll let you know once the application dashes into the App Store.
