Minimalist Conversion Apps Kurrency And Amount Updated With Improvements
October 8, 2013
A couple of notable conversion apps designed for iPhone and iPod touch, Kurrency and Amount, have just been updated with several improvements.
I first told you about Kurrency when it was released in the App Store just a couple of weeks ago. Now, it has already received its first update, which, fortunately, fixes the problem with offline conversions that I mentioned in my original post about the app.
As a result, you can now carry out currency conversions offline for units whose exchange rates have been downloaded through at least one online transaction. Note that Kurrency has also been updated with timestamps for online currency conversions.
The first update to Kurrency also changes the exchange feed for the popular Bitcoin peer-to-peer cryptocurrency to Bitstamp. It also adds support for another peer-to-peer cryptocurrency in the form of Litecoin.
Moreover, the update improves the app's location service and Russian localization.
As for Amount, which is a general unit converter rather than a currency-only converter, it has just been updated with URL scheme support. To use Amount's URL scheme feature, you must type a URL in the following format:
amount://convert?number=NUMBER&category=CATEGORY&unit=UNITNote that every value you use in the URL scheme is case-insensitive, but it must be written without blank spaces. The latest update to Amount also adds a search feature that lets you instantly convert any unit you choose. Also including some bug fixes, the new versions of Kurrency and Amount are available now in the App Store for free. Kurrency has always been free, but Amount, which normally goes for $0.99, is free for a limited time only. Kurrency is compatible with iOS 7.0 or later, while Amount is compatible with iOS 5.0 or later. Both Kurrency and Amount are included in Apple's special "Designed for iOS 7" section in the App Store.
