Rdio Takes On iTunes Radio As It Launches Free Mobile Listening For All Stations

October 4, 2013
A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Rdio would be taking on the likes of iTunes Radio and Pandora with its very own free music streaming service. Now, that service has been officially launched. Under the new free tier, you can listen to all stations on Rdio, including the personalized You FM, at no cost — no subscription required. It's available now on the official apps of Rdio for iOS and Android:
We’re inviting everyone to listen to all of Rdio’s stations, drawing from over 20 million songs, through our mobile apps for iOS and Android without ever pulling out the plastic. Even if your subscription or trial has ended, you’ll be able to choose from 10 different station types — including stations based on artist, song, and over 400 genres plus You FM, a personalized station based on your listening habits — so you can keep the music playing for as long as you want at no cost to you.
Note that free station listening is available to Rdio users in the U.S., Canada, and Australia only. With the latest updates for its mobile apps, Rdio has also launched support for starting stations based on any album or playlist (in addition to 10 other station types). It now also provides station sharing capability, allowing you to share a station on Facebook, on Twitter, or within the Rdio network itself. Also including various UI improvements and bug fixes, the new, free station listening-ready version of Rdio is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later.
