Google's Waze Updated To Add Voice Search, Enhanced iOS 7 Support And More

November 6, 2013
The free, Google-owned navigation app Waze has just received an update. Now, users of the universal application, which allows drivers to share their navigation data with one another, can enjoy voice search support for both addresses and places. The feature supports a total of 45 different languages, and given that it uses Google's impressive voice recognition technology (which also powers the recently updated Google Search for iOS application), users can be assured that it works well. Google has also added "voice-based event reporting in 16 new languages," according to the application's release notes, along with improved settings, enhanced iOS 7 support, and a number of minor bug fixes. Here's a complete list of changes made in the updated Waze app:
  • Voice-based search for addresses & places in 45 languages
  • Improved settings - new help section + easy to adjust sound alerts
  • Enhanced support for iOS7
  • Bug fixes
Back in August, Google added a more accessible search, an improved user interface, and a new "Sleep Mode" to Waze, and before this, integrations between Google Maps and Waze's service were also added to the free app. Google acquired Waze in June for a reported $1.3 billion. Previously, both Facebook and Apple were said to have been interested in the crowd-sourced mapping service. Waze can be downloaded in the App Store free of charge, and is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
