Readmill Updated With Community Highlights, Dropbox Import And More
November 6, 2013
Readmill, my favorite iOS e-reading app bar none, has just received an update that is, in a manner of speaking, filled with highlights.
"For two years, the Readmill community has been writing in the margins of ebooks. You’ve created hundreds of thousands of highlights and comments and shared them across the web, making new connections each day through the books you read," notes the Readmill team in a new blog post.
"Today we bring that community into the book itself. With our latest iOS update, you’ll be able to read along with the highlights of fellow readers, make comments, and discuss a passage without ever leaving the book."
Indeed, in the new version of Readmill, you can now see highlights from the Readmill community as you read and interact with other readers by responding to the highlights.
Readmill's community highlights integration is reminiscent of Amazon's community highlights for Kindle. And as with Amazon's, Readmill's community highlights may be turned off.
And still on the subject of highlights, the latest update to Readmill introduces a simpler way of highlighting. Now, you can simply press and drag your finger to highlight passages. You can then tap on your highlight to comment on it or share it via Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, email, and iMessage.
Beyond the matter of highlighting, the latest update to Readmill also adds support for Dropbox importing. At long last, you can now import ePubs or PDFs right from your Dropbox account into your Readmill library. Just go to the settings pane in the Profile tab to get started with this new (and long-overdue) feature.
The update also features a new mysterious fall reading list in the app's Explore section, with each free book handpicked by Readmill community manager Lisa Sanchez.
Also including some bug fixes and performance optimizations, the new version of Readmill is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later.
