A Perfect Match: Bejeweled Blitz Gets Much-Requested Feature In Latest Update

The free Bejeweled Blitz has received an update adding what Electronic Arts (EA) is calling “one of the most requested features” from the Facebook version of the match-three game: Vaulted Gems.
In an email that reached our inbox earlier today, EA explains: “New in this mobile update is one of the most highly requested features from the Facebook version of Bejeweled Blitz: Vaulted Gems. Vaulted Gems have unique effects on the game board, pack a punch, and are only available for a limited time!”
Originally developed by PopCap Games, EA took the Bejeweled Blitz helm back in 2011 when it acquired the developer. Besides Bejeweled, PopCap brought a number of other popular titles to the App Store (including Plants vs. Zombies), and fortunately for iDevice gamers the studio has continued to operate as a subsidiary of EA in the years following its acquisition.
As such, the EA-owned PopCap was able to bring the highly anticipated Plants vs. Zombies 2 to the App Store last year; PopCap’s iOS apps have also received regular updates.
Here’s a list of changes made to Bejeweled Blitz, as of its 1.4.0 update. Besides Vaulted Gems, a new “Ice-Burrst Gem” has made an appearance, and a number of further enhancements have also been applied in the updated game:
