FireCore Updates Seas0nPass To Add Untethered Jailbreak For Apple TV 5.3

January 5, 2014

FireCore has updated its Seas0nPass software to 2.4, adding full untethered jailbreak support for the second-generation Apple TV 5.3 firmware following the release of p0sixspwn for iOS 6.1.3–5. The paid aTV Flash (black) software has also been updated for Apple TV 5.3, too.

Earlier this week, we explained that the folks behind p0sixspwn had updated the software fixing iMessage- and 4G LTE-related bugs, while also adding support for the second-generation Apple TV. In order for users to be able to jailbreak their set-top box, however, we added that Seas0nPass or sn0wbreeze would need to utilize the developments made in p0sixspwn within a dedicated Apple TV jailbreak application.

This happened recently, thanks to FireCore. In an update to Seas0nPass, FireCore explains: “Today we’re excited to announce the release of new versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass that allow for an untethered jailbreak of Apple TV 5.3 (ATV2 only). Big thanks goes out to @iH8sn0w, @winocm, and @SquiffyPwn for their help with the new version of Seas0nPass.”

Changes made in the software include:

  • Added support for untethered Apple TV 5.3
  • Improved reliability of installation process
  • Improved diagnostic reporting
  • Other various fixes and improvements

FireCore adds, however, that the recent release of the evad3rs’ evasi0n7 jailbreak solution has helped the group work towards developing a jailbreak for Apple TV 6.0+ firmware, and FireCore hopes to have more information concerning this available in the near future.

In the meantime, second-generation Apple TV owners running firmware 5.3 on their set-top box can jailbreak the device using Seas0nPass. It’s also possible to install aTV Flash (black) for Apple TV 5.3, which is priced at $29.95 but adds a number of impressive features to the product.

As a reminder, aTV Flash (black) adds support for additional file formats, a built-in Web browser, advanced media streaming, a Last.fm app, and several other features to the Apple TV.

For more information, head over to FireCore’s website. There, you can find download links and instructions for both Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black).
