Google Play Movies And TV Lands In The App Store

Google Play Movies and TV has just arrived in the App Store. As the name suggests, the app allows users to watch content purchased or rented from the Google Play store.
As a very nice touch, the app is also compatible with Google’s Chromecast device. So users of the dongle can easily watch content from the app on any HD television.
There are a few caveats, though. Streaming video only works over a Wi-Fi connection. And TV shows are only available in the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. There is also no offline viewing of media.
Probably the biggest issue is that users can’t actually buy or rent any content directly from the app because Google didn’t want to share a 30 percent cut with Apple. That’s a deal killer for me, even if Google’s alternative sometimes offers lower prices than iTunes.
A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Google Play Movies and TV can be downloaded now in the App Store for free.
Google has previously released iOS compatible apps for Google Play Books and Google Play Music.
