BeaverTap Sends Out An Update For Mikey Hooks Adding MFi Controller Support
BeaverTap Games has updated its swing-tastic Mikey Hooks adding one useful feature: support for MFi (Made for iPhone) game controllers like the Logitech PowerShell or MOGA Ace Power.
You can pick up Mikey Hooks 1.4 in the App Store for $1.99, and it's optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. MFi controller support is the only change made in this most recent update, and in order to take advantage of it you'll of course need to own a compatible gamepad.
Options at the minute include the aforementioned PowerShell and Ace Power, neither of which are all that impressive; plus, both controllers can't be used with the iPad, since each one utilizes a Lightning connector-equipped shell to hook up to one's handset.
Instead, a better option seems to be SteelSeries' Stratus. We've got a review of this controller coming up in the near future, and our initial impressions are that the gamepad is a far better solution than Logitech's offering, at least. It connects to an iOS 7-powered device using Bluetooth, and as such it can be used alongside an iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
In case you're unfamiliar with the title, Mikey Hooks – the sequel to BeaverTap's Mikey Shorts – sets users off swinging from hook to hook across a handful of different environments. On your way, you'll need to collect coins, race against ghosts, and earn achievements using Game Center.

I love that it retains the same visual style, music, controls, challenging speed run levels, but adds a new game mode, enemies and obstacles, and makes the hooking element feel like a natural extension of the original. This is without a doubt one of my favorite game releases of the year so far.
Now that Mikey Hooks supports MFi controllers, the title is even better than before.
