Chevrolet Airs A New Equinox Ad, Shows Off Siri Eyes Free Integration

February 10, 2014

General Motors has aired a new ad for its Chevrolet Equinox, and in it, the car manufacturer highlights the helpful – and, comically, the not so helpful – nature of Siri Eyes Free integration. In the humorous ad, Siri gets one car owner in trouble with his partner after the virtual assistant reads text messages sent concerning his recent night out on the town.

First up, here’s the ad – see what you think:

Pretty funny, wouldn’t you say? Though it might not be a situation many of us have found ourselves in, I think we can all appreciate how Siri can sometimes act as less of a virtual assistant, and rather more of a virtual nuisance – even if she (or he?) does seem to have the best of intentions.

On a more serious note, the General Motors-owned Chevrolet confirmed last year that a handful of its car models – including the Chevrolet Camaro, Malibu, and Cruze (as well as the Equinox) – would support Siri Eyes Free.

Though not as fully featured as Apple’s incoming iOS in the Car, Siri Eyes Free allows users to call on the software to read and send messages and email, to make calls, and to select tracks from an iTunes library, all while driving. Apple’s original partners for the service were Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, and Toyota, along with General Motors.

The more advanced iOS in the Car, which brings iOS to in-car displays, is expected to launch in March with the public release of iOS 7.1. For a closer look at the feature ahead of schedule, however, be sure to check out this leaked video and the below screenshots.
