Google Maps For iOS Now Lets You Know When There's A Faster Route Available
February 4, 2014
Google has just issued an update to Google Maps for iOS that introduces a small yet noteworthy feature.
The feature in question is a new function that allows you to get notified when a faster route becomes available in navigation mode.
Of course, when choosing from Google Maps' suggested navigation routes, you're inclined to select the route with the quickest travel time. But if, for some reason, an even faster route becomes available as you're already in navigation mode, Google Maps can now notify you accordingly.
Note, though, that for this function to work properly, you must first ensure that Google Maps' background guidance is enabled by turning on iOS 7's Background App Refresh feature.
Also including some bug fixes, the new version of Google Maps is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later.
Google Maps was previously updated in December last year with the ability to show flight, hotel, and restaurant reservations on the map.
