Square Enix Montréal Announces Hitman GO, A Turn-Based Hitman Game For Mobile
Hitman has so far been a console-only game series, but the folks at Square Enix Montréal are set to change this with a brand new application called Hitman GO. The app, which is almost complete, will offer iOS device gamers a turn-based gaming experience set in the Hitman universe, and from what we’ve heard, it sounds like the application’s gameplay could be along similar lines to the popular XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
In a recent blog post, Square Enix Montréal explained that Io-Interactive, developer of the upcoming AAA-class Hitman 6 console game, provided the Canada-based developer-publisher with “total creative freedom” to develop a Hitman game that would fit smartphones and tablets. “This was a lot of fun and we decided to develop something quite different and, we hope, totally unexpected,” Square Enix Montréal notes.
The developer explains online:
Hitman GO is a turn-based strategy game with beautifully rendered diorama-style set pieces. You will strategically navigate fixed spaces on a grid to avoid enemies and take out your target or infiltrate well-guarded locations. You really have to think about each move and all the Hitman tools of the trade you would expect are included; disguises, distractions, sniper rifles and even 47’s iconic Silverballers.
Created using “a small core team,” Hitman GO looks to be a really interesting release, and according to Square Enix Montréal the folks at Io-Interactive “absolutely loved” the idea when it was presented to them.
Though no definite release date has been confirmed, Hitman GO is “almost ready for launch,” and we’re expecting to hear more in the coming weeks. Of course, we’ll keep you updated with more information concerning this intriguing title as we receive it.
