Amazon Expected To Unveil Apple TV Competitor Next Week

March 27, 2014
After a long delay, Amazon is finally expected to unveil its streaming video set-top box at a press conference in New York on Wednesday, April 2. As you can see, the online retailer asks media members to join them for “an update on our video business.” And if the couch and popcorn didn’t offer enough of a clue, Re/Code confirmed that the box will be announced at the event. The streaming video device market is already crowded with offerings from Apple, Roku, and even Google’s small Chromecast device. But the Amazon box could shape up to be a major player. Earlier this month, reports surfaced that along with Amazon’s own Prime Instant Video, the box will include applications for both Netflix and Hulu Plus. The device may even include full gaming support, which would definitely be a unique selling point. A revamped Apple TV, which has been rumored to be in the pipeline for months, has yet to make an appearance. Most recently, AppAdvice reported that gaming will be a major focus of the device. It may even be as small as Chromecast or Roku’s upcoming Streaming Stick.
