Macworld/iWorld 2014: Kickstart Glowdeck, A Wireless Companion For Your iPhone
March 30, 2014
At first glance, Glowdeck appears to be nothing more than a pair of speakers with a little screen in the middle. In reality, though, it promises to be so much more.
Actually, Glowdeck is a wireless charger, a Bluetooth speaker, a LED light system, and a Wi-Fi-enabled notification platform, all rolled into one smartphone companion product.
My colleague Dom got to check out Glowdeck at Macworld/iWorld 2014. Take a look:
If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here.
First and foremost, Glowdeck is a charging platform that lets you wirelessly charge your iPhone or any other Qi-compatible smartphone. Alternatively, it offers a wired charging option via USB.
Glowdeck also provides a pair of stereo speakers that can connect to your iPhone via Bluetooth 4.0, complete with an embedded microphone for speakerphone purposes.
In addition, Glowdeck is a personal notification system that uses Wi-Fi connectivity and LED lighting to let you know of various notifications, which you can customize through Glowdeck's Streams mobile app.
As pointed out in the video, Glowdeck is currently being crowdfunded via Kickstarter. At the moment, more than $56,000 have been pledged by backers, which is already nearly double the Kickstarter project's $30,000 goal. If you're so inclined, you can still back the project and preorder your very own Glowdeck since the project has until May 1 to accept pledges.
