More Secure Snapchat Alternative Wickr Updated With Universal Support

March 12, 2014
Wickr, the Snapchat competitor that offers self-destructing encrypted messaging, has just received another major update. Released in May 2013, Wickr was updated to version 2.0 last December with a new interface designed for iOS 7 along with other enhancements including doodles and exploding messages. Now, the app has been updated to version 2.1 with universal support. As a result, Wickr has been optimized for iPad as well as for iPhone and iPod touch, for which it was originally launched. Along with a native iPad interface, Wickr 2.1 features landscape mode support for iPhone and iPod touch. Of course, the newly updated app also includes the obligatory round of bug fixes and general improvements. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, the universal Wickr 2.1 is available now in the App Store for free. Wickr promises a more secure alternative to Snapchat, or to any other messaging app for that matter, e.g. the recently Facebook-acquired WhatsApp. Primarily, it features peer-to-peer encryption that doesn't rely on any private key distribution center for decryption.
