Modern Combat 5 To Be IAP-Free, But No Twitch Or MFi Controller Support

May 24, 2014

Gameloft confirmed a bunch of details concerning its delayed Modern Combat 5: Blackout first-person shooter (FPS) for iOS in a recent Twitch streaming session.

The most promising news concerning the upcoming game is that it won't include in-app purchases (IAPs), though a couple of more desirable features are also being left out of the application, too.

TouchArcade explains that IAPs indeed won't feature in Modern Combat 5: Blackout, adding that character progression and unlockable items will occur as a direct result of players' in-game performance. This is great to hear: too often, Gameloft's games provide iOS device users with an IAP-powered means of speeding up character progression, and we're definitely pleased to learn that this won't be the case with its anticipated Modern Combat 5.

The publication also shares news concerning the app's multiplayer mode, too:

The multiplayer portion of the game will have 1v1 all the way to 6v6 person battles, and will feature killcams and kill streaks. Gun camos and voice chat won't be in the initial release, but are planned for updates, but there will be text chat from the onset.

The same goes for Twitch support, however. While Gameloft indeed built Twitch streaming into Asphalt 8: Airborne, Modern Combat 5 won't offer users the feature – at least not to begin with (it could always arrive in a future update).

MFi (Made for iPhone) game controllers will also be unsupported as of the app's initial release, which is disappointing to hear. TouchArcade adds that Modern Combat 5 will always require an Internet connection, too, in order to “help detect hackers, improve social interaction, and take advantage of cloud saving.”

Earlier this month, Gameloft shared information concerning the soldier classes available in Modern Combat 5. Before this, we heard in April that the upcoming application finally had a name – “Modern Combat 5: Blackout.”

Modern Combat 5 is expected to reach the App Store this summer. We'll keep you updated with further information as we receive it.
