Vesper Note-Taking App Co-Developed By John Gruber Finally Supports Sync
May 27, 2014
The name's Sync. Vesper Sync.
Vesper, the popular note-taking app co-developed by Daring Fireball's John Gruber, has just been updated to version 2.0 with its most-requested feature: sync.
The introduction of sync in Vesper was confirmed over half a year ago by Gruber, safely putting the arrival of the feature at a year. But as it turns out, the wait for sync need not be that long.
Finally, sync is now supported by Vesper. But it's worth noting that the feature is not implemented using iCloud, Dropbox, or any other popular syncing service out there. Rather, shaken but not stirred by the difficulty of implementing sync on iOS, Gruber and company (collectively known as Q Branch, in keeping with the app's James Bond inspiration) have created their very own syncing service simply called Vesper Sync.
So, if you've been wanting to sync and back up your Vesper notes, you can now do so by downloading Vesper 2.0, tapping the new Sync option in the app's sidebar menu, and creating a Vesper Sync account using your email address.
Vesper Sync is optional and off by default, in line with Vesper’s original function as an iPhone-only "data silo."
Vesper 2.0 is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $4.99 download. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later.
Vesper was launched in June last year.
