A new Kickstarter project, Cabin, brings MagSafe-like charging to the iPhone

July 18, 2014
Have you always wanted a MagSafe-like charging connection for your iPhone? Than this new Kickstarter project is for you. Called Cabin, there are three major parts of the system. First up is the MicroAdapter that allows a magnetic charging connection to an iPhone 5s/5. Project backers can also select to receive a dock for at home use and the Cabin backup battery case. The 2,300 mAH battery can recharge a completely dead iPhone at least once. It also looks to be sleek and slim while even offering an LED indicator that shows how much battery power remains in the case. Here’s a quick video about the project. Click here if you can’t see it. While everyone is focusing on the next-generation iPhone, the complete Cabin system does seem like a well-designed charging solution for the iPhone 5s/5. Count me in as a backer. Hopefully project developer Hevo Labs is planning for an “iPhone 6” system as well. For a $25 pledge, you can snag the complete charging system. The dock and adapter combo is $59. The complete set, including the backup battery, can be reserved for a $135 early bird pledge. With 41 days left to go in the funding campaign, more than $76,000 has been pledged, easily blowing past the original $50,000 goal. All rewards are estimated to ship in November.
