Facebook Messenger 9.0 features full-screen sharing of photos and videos
August 1, 2014
In addition to its first major update to the Snapchat-like messaging app Slingshot, Facebook has released an update to its flagship messaging app, Facebook Messenger.
Last June, Messenger was updated with support for tapping and holding the send button in the camera tab to send a short video, as an alternative to simply tapping it to quickly send a photo.
In both cases, the camera screen is limited to the size of the keyboard screen itself.
But thanks to the latest update to Messenger, you now have the option to expand the camera screen, effectively enabling you to shoot, share and view photos and videos in full screen. It's a small yet very welcome improvement, especially if, like me, you're fond of peppering your Facebook conversations with photos and videos.
The latest update to Facebook Messenger, which oddly brings the app to version 9.0, also delivers speed and performance improvements.
Facebook Messenger 9.0 is available now on the App Store for free.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, the app was updated with universal support for iPad just last month.
As reported just a few days ago, Messenger is being pushed by Facebook as its preferred messaging app on mobile as it's set to disable messaging in its main app for iPhone. Over the next few days, the Messages tab will be removed from the main Facebook client, forcing you to to use only the Messenger app for chatting with your Facebook friends.
