Readdle's Documents Updated With Background Playback, E-Book Reader And More
July 8, 2014
Readdle has just released a significant update to its popular document viewing and file management app, Documents.
Documents was updated to version 5.0 late last February with a new design for iOS 7, a new file manager, and other enhancements.
Now, Documents has received its first major update since then, bringing the app to version 5.1 with a handful of new features.
Documents 5.1 adds support for background playback. Now, the app's custom media player lets you listen to your favorite music with no interruptions in background mode.
Another notable new feature in — and my favorite new addition to — Documents 5.1 is the app's built-in e-book reader. This lets you read any ePub or FB2 e-book file right within the app, with reading settings to boot: font customization, sepia or night mode, quick bookmarks, book thumbnails, and more.
Documents 5.1 also adds support for Readdle's inter-app add-ons on iPhone and iPod touch. Initially available on Documents for iPad, these add-ons unlock the app's integrations with other Readdle apps including PDF Expert 5, Printer Pro, and Scanner Pro.
Documents 5.1 also includes an improved media player, with new features and controller, and some stability fixes and visual refinements.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, Documents 5.1 is available now on the App Store for free.
