Apple's 5.5-inch 'iPhone 6' may come equipped with a 2,915 mAh battery
Yet another image said to show a component of the so-called “iPhone 6″ has been leaked. This time, the new image, shared by Chinese website Apple Daily (via MacRumors), is purported to be a photo of the battery for the 5.5-inch model of Apple’s next-generation smartphone.
The photo (shown above) is admittedly of dubious veracity. Interestingly, however, it indicates that the larger iPhone 6 version could have a capacity of 2,915 mAh. In addition, absent a model number, its labeling states an Apple part number of 616-0765 and a voltage of 4.35.
The indicated capacity of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is a bit higher than the purported capacity of its rumored smaller sibling, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, which has been reported to be 2,100 mAh. Apple’s current smartphones, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c, both have 4-inch screens and a 1,560 mAh battery capacity.
Apple is said to be set to unveil the iPhone 6 at a special media event on Sept. 9, although the release of the 5.5-inch model is expected to come later than that of the 4.7-inch version.
The 5.5-inch iPhone 6′s rumored 2,915 mAh battery capacity puts it at a slightly higher advantage than Samsung’s flagship iPhone competitor, the Galaxy S5, which comes with a 2,800 mAh battery.
The supposed short battery life of and the lack of a user-replaceable battery in Apple’s iPhones have been the focus of Samsung’s recent “Wall Huggers” ad campaign for the Galaxy S5, which has just been extended to power outlets in airports.
