Square Enix's Hitman: Sniper soft-launches in Canada
Hitman: Sniper, “a more traditional Hitman game” from developer-publisher Square Enix Montréal, has soft-launched in the Canadian App Store ahead of its anticipated worldwide release.
The app, which we first told you about back in June, indeed promises iOS device owners a Hitman game more in keeping with the popular console series. This means that instead of the turn-based board game-style experience offered in the developer’s Hitman GO, Hitman: Sniper will allow players to take control of Agent 47 and, more importantly, his beloved sniper rifle.
Unfortunately, little concerning Hitman: Sniper is given away by the Canadian release. It features one level only and “is really more akin to a demo than anything else,” TouchArcade explains. That being said, the Canadian release of Hitman: Sniper does mean we’re inching ever closer to the app’s worldwide launch.
Aside from the obvious, we’re hearing that Hitman: Sniper will be a free-to-play application supported by in-app purchases (IAPs) (which accellerate player progression). Leaderboards are also designed to make the app “massively competitive,” according to Square Enix Montréal.
We’ll let you know when Hitman: Sniper launches on the U.S. App Store. In the meantime, Hitman fans can take Hitman GO for a spin now: it’s available for $4.99 and is optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
