PayPal launches Pebble smart watch app for on-the-wrist payments and notifications

November 19, 2014

PayPal has found a new “pay pal” in Pebble.

“At PayPal, we’re working to make shopping easy and seamless so that you are one step closer to walking into a store and being able to place your order and pay without ever reaching into your pocket,” the PayPal team says in a new blog post. “So today, we’re sharing that the PayPal app is now available for Pebble.”

Indeed, the official app of PayPal on the popular iOS-connected Pebble smart watch’s platform is now available on the Pebble app store in the Pebble Smartwatch companion app.

If you’re a proud Pebbler like me, you can use the PayPal app to check in to pay or pay with payment codes at retailers, restaurants, and other local establishments that accept PayPal. You can also receive PayPal payment notifications right on your wrist.

With the introduction of its new version for Pebble, the PayPal app is now said to be supported across all available wearable platforms including Android Wear. Perhaps with the release of WatchKit, it may also find its way to the Apple Watch, even as PayPal faces stiff competition with Apple Pay.

Along with adding the PayPal app to its app store, Pebble has also added PayPal as a payment option for orders on getpebble.com.
