Apple to once again offer 'Lucky Bags' in celebration of the new year in Japan
Apple has just announced on its online store in Japan that its annual New Year’s retail store promotion in the country has been scheduled for the second day of the new year.
As reported by AppleInsider:
Terms and conditions for this year’s Lucky Bags promo were posted to Apple Japan’s retail website, revealing festivities will kick off on Jan. 2, 2015, with many Japanese Apple Store locations open two hours early to accommodate a usual throng of customers. The change was spotted by Japanese blog Kodawarisan.
During the promo, Apple hands out a “fukubukuro” or “lucky bag” to each interested customer who visits any of its participating retail stores in Japan.
What makes the bag “lucky” is that its specific contents, usually including Apple products and related accessories, is unknown to the customer until it’s opened, and that they may not be returned unless found defective. In any case, the actual total cost of the contents is much higher than the price of the bag.
For its previous Lucky Bags sale event, held on Jan. 2, 2014, Apple offered four classes of bags at ¥36,000 (around $345) each.
All four classes included a special edition Incase City Collection Compact backpack (worth about $100), a Mophie Juice Pack Power Station External Battery ($80), and a commemorative T-shirt.
Most notably, one class included an 11-inch MacBook Air, and another featured a 16GB iPad Air.
Another class included a 16GB iPad mini 2 along with Jaybirds’ BlueBuds X ($170), Stem’s IZON IOS WRM-WA0–00 Remote Room Monitor ($100), Logitech’s Ultimate Ears Mobile Boombox ($90), and the Square Card Reader ($10). And the remaining class came with an iPod nano plus the aforementioned Jaybirds and Logitech accessories along with an Incase Sports Armband Pro ($30) and a Griffin Courier Clip ($25), both for the iPod nano.
Apple is yet to reveal its pricing for its upcoming Lucky Bags promo, which is set to start as early as 8 a.m. local time on, as mentioned, Jan. 2, 2015.
