Apple tugs at heartstrings with new holiday TV ad 'The Song,' featuring Mac, iPhone and iPad
Apple has just debuted a new TV ad for the holidays. Unsurprisingly, the company’s new holiday ad is made to tug at viewers’ heartstrings.
The commercial has been posted on Apple’s homepage, where it’s featured with the tagline, “From one gift come many,” as well as on the company’s official YouTube channel.
“With a Mac, iPhone or iPad you have the power to create thoughtful, emotional gifts and memories that transcend time,” Apple notes in the video’s description on YouTube. “It could be a movie, a homemade card or a song that brings two generations closer together.”
Titled “The Song,” the ad follows a young woman during the holiday season beginning with her discovery of a Voice-O-Graph disk recorded in December 1952 by her grandmother for her grandfather, who presumably has since passed away.
It then shows her efforts of learning and recording the song on the disk, the popular jazz standard “Love is Here to Stay,” using her MacBook and iPhone, and presenting the resulting time-transending “duet” to her grandmother on her iPad mini. Cue flow of tears and warm fuzzies.

Last year, Apple released a similarly heartwarming holiday TV ad for iPhone 5s titled “Misunderstood,” which went on to win a Creative Arts Emmy award for Outstanding Commercial earlier this year.
