Electronic Arts officially launches SimCity BuildIt on the App Store worldwide
Over three months after its announcement and nearly two months after its soft launch in several countries, SimCity BuildIt has finally been released globally on iOS.
Developed and published by Electronic Arts as a reimagining of the SimCity open-ended city-building game originally released 25 years ago, SimCity BuildIt is touted as “the most realistic city builder on mobile,” what with its impressively gorgeous graphics rendered in real-time 3-D.
But along with great graphics, SimCity BuildIt prides itself with a variety of gameplay features and strategies that make it a true SimCity game.
As explained by EA Mobile VP and Group GM Jason Willig in the new behind-the-scenes video below, in SimCity BuildIt, “You’re the mayor and it’s your job to keep your Sims happy.” To do so, you have to strategically provide them with services, specializations, residential zones, and more.

SimCity signifies the re-emergence of the SimCity franchise on the App Store, following the discontinuation of SimCity for iOS, SimCity Deluxe for iPhone, and SimCity Deluxe for iPad. There is, however, The Sims FreePlay, the free-to-play iOS spinoff of The Sims, which itself is a spinoff of SimCity.
