Walt Disney World to accept Apple Pay beginning this week

December 22, 2014

Walt Disney World has been listed on the official webpage of Apple Pay as one of the locations that are expected to begin supporting Apple's mobile payment platform since its launch in October. Well, that's about to change.

As reported by WDWMagic (via iMore), Walt Disney World is scheduled to begin accepting Apple Pay on Wednesday, Dec. 24, which happens to be the last day of Disney's previously announced “before Christmas” window for the launch of the service in its flagship theme park.

Consequently, guests will be able to tap to pay using their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus at the resort, which is located in Bay Lake, Florida. “Initially, most stores, quick service restaurants, bars and ticket sales booths will be included,” WDWMagic notes. “Any locations that use portable payment terminals, such as table service restaurants, will be added later.”

In addition to Apple Pay, other contactless payment methods, including Google Wallet and RFID-enabled credit cards, will be supported by Walt Disney World through its MyMagic+ technology, which it rolled out last year.

The official iOS app of Walt Disney World, called My Disney Experience, was updated a couple of weeks ago with the ability to purchase theme park tickets, but without Apple Pay support yet.

Apple Pay is already supported in the brick-and-mortar locations and the official iOS app of Disney Store, Disney's specialty store chain.

The Disneyland Resort, which is located in Anaheim, California, is also expected to begin accepting Apple Pay in 2015.
