Apple Pay could soon be launched across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa
Apple is planning to launch its mobile payment platform across Europe, Middle East, India, and Africa (EMEIA). That much is confirmed in a new job listing posted today by the company.
In the job listing, which was first spotted by iClarified, Apple is looking to hire an “Apple Pay Intern” who will join its team based in London and tasked with overseeing the expansion of Apple across EMEIA in partnership with local issuers, payment networks and merchants.
Apple notes that the position requires the employee to “support execution of multiple NDAs and contracts with third party partners” and “provide administrative support to the EMEIA Apple Pay team for business development and contract negotiations.”
Apple Pay has been experiencing significant adoption since its launch in the U.S. in October. So significant, in fact, that it now supports the cards that represent about 90 percent of the credit card purchase volume in the country. Apple Pay is also expected to be launched in China with backing from the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.
Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung, in partnership with LoopPay, would be launching its own mobile payment platform to compete with Apple Pay.
