Microsoft launches official Outlook email app for iOS based on Acompli
Microsoft has finally released the official iOS app of its popular email service, Outlook.
If the app, simply called Microsoft Outlook, looks and feels familiar, that’s only because it’s largely based on the acclaimed email app Acompli, which was acquired by Microsoft late last year.
You could say that Microsoft’s rebranding of Acompli as the official iOS app of Outlook was, well, a fait accompli.
Like Acompli, the new Outlook app provides access to your email, calendar, contacts, and attachments all in one place.
It automatically surfaces emails you need to focus on and lets you quickly triage messages using swipe-based actions. It allows you to view your calendar without the leaving the app and share your available times and schedule meetings with your contacts. It also lets you easily view and attach files from various sources.

Pre-acquisition, Acompli worked with the Microsoft services Exchange, Office 365, Outlook.com, Hotmail, MSN, Live, and OneDrive, along with Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, Dropbox, Google Drive, and Box.
Surprisingly, but not unwelcomely, the Acompli-based Outlook app retains support for most of the third-party services as well as most of the Microsoft services. It works with Exchange, Office 365, Outlook.com, OneDrive, Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo Mail, Dropbox, and Google Drive.
If you’re looking for an email app with excellent calendar, contacts, and files integration, and support for a variety of email and cloud storage services to boot, the new Outlook app for iOS is definitely worth a look.
The launch of Outlook for iOS comes shortly after Microsoft rolled out a number of significant features for OneDrive on iOS and Mac.
