Microsoft announces that third-party services will soon be able to integrate into Office for the iPhone and iPad

Microsoft used an iPhone 6 and iPad at its BUILD developer conference on Wednesday to show off some upcoming features for the popular Office suite.

Add-ins can more aptly be described as a plug-in for the four different Office apps. For example, an Uber add-in can help users receive a reminder to request a ride before a calendar appointment. Add-ins will also be a part of Office 2016 for Mac when it officially hits the market sometime later this year.

The complete Office suite – Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook – is available to download now on the App Store for free. You can view, create, and edit documents for free.

More advanced features can be unlocked with an Office 365 subscription, which starts at $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

In late 2014, Microsoft unveiled a partnership with Dropbox that allows Office users to access and save new files to the cloud storage service directly from the iOS apps. The new add-ins definitely sound interesting, we’ll let you know when they arrive on the iPhone and iPad.

Interestingly, Microsoft also announced new developer tools that would allow iOS apps to easily be ported to the upcoming Windows 10.
