A new update to King of Thieves ushers in guild battles and more

King of Thieves, from Cut the Rope maker ZeptoLab, has just received its first major update with the move to version 2.2. And fans of the PvP platformer are in for a nice treat.

The highlight of the update is the addition of guild battles, which will pit guilds with similar ratings against each other. Battles last on a repeating cycle of three days, and the guild that steals the most gems wins. And the most active player in the winning party will also receive in-game currency.

Guildmates can also band together to help each other retrieve their stolen gems. Gamers can now also browse through all the guilds in the game, not just the top 200.

Finally, a number of new missions and rewards have been added.

Originally arriving back in Feburary, the game is all about becoming a top-notch thief by stealing gems from other players. Our own Christine Chan talked more about the game in her original review:

The controls in the game are simple and intuitive. Your character moves forward automatically, but will come to a stop once it hits a wall. To change direction, you can just jump off of the wall, or you can jump up a chamber by bouncing off between walls. To jump, all you need to do is tap on the screen — pretty easy stuff, right? Of course, to make things difficult, there are obstacles that you’ll need to avoid, such as spinning saw blades and other traps. Once you grab all of the treasure and loot, make your way to the exit to complete the stage. If you get hit by a trap, you lose some health, and the more times you die, the less stars you’ll earn, so be careful.

King of Thieves was also named as our AppAdvice Game of the Week shortly after its release.

A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, King of Thieves can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. As usual with this type of game, there are a number of in-app purchases available.

While it’s a bit different from Cut the Rope and Pudding Monsters, definitely give King of Thieves a try. Adding in guild wars really helps to amp up the already well-designed social component.
