Infuse app gains folder organization and background playback

Already, Infuse, the popular video player app developed by FireCore, offers a great many features for consuming video content, with, for starters, its support for multiple formats and streaming options. And with a new update, Infuse has been infused with even more capabilities.

Folder support and background playback

First off, the latest update to Infuse introduces a new option that lets you manually organize videos in the app. And it involves good old folders.

To sort videos into folders, select one or more videos, tap Move and select a destination folder or create a new one. You can also set custom artwork for each folder to help you more easily spot which folder is which.

This new organization option can come in handy if you want to group videos for easier access, e.g. putting the episodes of a series in one folder and your kids’ favorite movies in another.

The new version of Infuse also sees the introduction of another new and noteworthy feature, albeit one that requires Infuse Pro, in the form of background playback — background audio playback, to be exact. This lets you continue playing a video’s audio track in the background, as while you’re using other apps or when your device is locked.

Normally, I’d pause a video if I had to do something in another app, so I don’t see myself settling for just the sound when the video content itself is essential, as when watching a visual effects-laden movie like “Avatar.” As it stands, background audio playback is likely to be used most often for playing a succession of music videos.

More improvements

The latest update to Infuse also introduces a setting for locking landscape orientation on iPhone, adds support for callback URLs for streaming from other apps, and includes the following changes:

  • File size is now shown when browsing shares through Add Files screen
  • Added Turkish translation
  • Delete videos from ticket view
  • Option to show filenames instead of fetched names
  • Improved speed of video artwork caching and loading
  • Improved speed and stability of SMB connections
  • Resolved issues with some direct URLs not working
  • Auto-empty URL field after a link is saved
  • Other minor improvements and fixes
