MailDeck email app goes 3.0 with alias support, swipe actions and more

MailDeck, the smart email management app developed by Crono, has just received a huge update.

So named because of its theme patterned after decks of color-coded stacked cards, MailDeck was originally launched in December 2013 for iPad. It was updated to version 2.0 with support for iPhone and iPod touch, along with support for archiving and the OAuth authentication protocol for Gmail.

Now, version 3.0 of MailDeck is here with a deck, so to speak, of new features and improvements.

Alias support

One of the most significant new features in MailDeck 3.0 is alias support. Now, you can send emails using forwarding email addresses aka aliases.

To set up an alias for an account, first make sure that you’ve set up the alias with your email provider. Then, go to the settings section of MailDeck, tap the account you’d like to add an alias to, select Account Aliases, tap Add Alias, add a display name for outgoing messages, and enter the alias.

Again, for an alias to work you must first add it on your mail server, otherwise your messages will be sent from your primary address and not your alias.

More features and improvements

MailDeck 3.0 also features a new Filtered inbox, which removes computer-generated emails to show your most important emails, and support for swipe actions (similar to those in the soon to be discontinued Mailbox) to quickly delete, archive, mark a message as read, or create a task. Furthermore, it introduces an in-app browser and a condensed list view.

The latest update to MailDeck also adds support for saving events from .ics files to your calendar and support for forwarding HTML emails.

Additional information in and sound preferences for push notifications are also included in the update, as are various interface tweaks for iPhone, bug fixes, and performance enhancements.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, MailDeck is available on the App Store for free. The app offers an annual $7.99 subscription or a one-time $19.99 in-app purchase for unlocking premium features including ad removal, custom signatures, and support for Exchange accounts.

Even without a subscription or an in-app purchase, MailDeck works with Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, AOL, and other IMAP-based email providers.

According to Crono, MailDeck’s upcoming updates will feature full iOS 9 compatibility, including support for 3D Touch and other enhancements.

MailDeck is a neat app for personal mailboxes and especially for work email accounts, what with its new features in addition to its long-standing search and filter capabilities, security features, and context-driven conversation views. Check it out now.
