You can now listen to NPR One while you drive using Apple's CarPlay
Another high-profile app has just been added to the roster of apps that officially support Apple’s automobile dashboard standard, CarPlay. And this one comes from no less than NPR.
The app in question is NPR One.
Launched in July 2014, NPR One is an audio app that provides you with a continuous stream of public radio news, stories, and podcasts curated for you in accordance with your tastes and preferences. As noted in our original review of the app, “If you are a news junkie but prefer to listen to your news instead of reading it, then NPR One is an app you need to have in your collection.”
Hit the road with NPR OneThrough its latest update, NPR One has gained support for CarPlay. Subsequently, you can now listen to and navigate the app with ease and safety through your CarPlay-enabled automobile’s in-dash entertainment system. (You can find out which cars support CarPlay by looking at Apple’s official list here.)
“Once you have connected NPR One to CarPlay you can tap on Catch Up to get started with your National and Local newscast followed by your recommended stories,” NPR notes. “Or simply tap on Recommendations to scroll through curated lists of stories and podcast episodes just for you.”
NPR One joins several other third-party apps that are officially integrated with CarPlay including, as listed by Apple on its website: iHeartRadio, MLB.com At Bat, Spotify, Stitcher, CBS Radio, Overcast, Audiobooks.com, Audible, Pandora, Slacker, and Vox.

The latest update to NPR One also delivers a couple of minor tweaks. One resolves an issue where the app would start playing overnight of its own accord, and the other disables auto-play when the app is launched so that, as noted by NPR, “you’ll never accidentally blast ‘This is NPR One!’ in a quiet meeting room again.”
NPR One was updated earlier this month with Explore, a quick and easy way to find stories and podcasts to listen to.
